The Coordinating Council of the Russian-Armenian organizations (CC RAO), like the whole Armenian people, with great satisfaction accepted the news of the unanimous adoption by the US Senate on December 12, 2019 of the Resolution S.Res.150 on the recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide in Turkey in 1915-1923. This historic decision, made by US senators, is the triumph of the justice of good over evil. It is a tribute to the innocent 1.5 million Armenians killed by Turkish executioners.
This is a tremendous achievement of the American Armenians, Armenia and the entire world Armenian Diaspora, who have been achieving this recognition for decades. This victory was achieved, despite strong opposition from Turkey. This is evidence of how great respect in the United States is for the Armenian community and for Armenia.
The CC RAO expresses its sincere gratitude to the US Senate and, first of all, to the authors of this resolution, Senators Robert Menendez and Ted Cruz. Finally, the long-awaited moment of truth has arrived. Earlier, on October 29 of this year, the Armenian Genocide in Turkey was recognized by the US House of Representatives. Now we are waiting for US President Donald Trump on April 24, 2020, on the day of the 105th anniversary of the first Genocide of the 20th century, to name the word Genocide speaking about the atrocious crime against Armenians.
As stated in the Pan-Armenian Declaration in 2015 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the peak of the Armenian Genocide, at this stage (after the milestone when the fact of the Armenian Genocide is recognized), “the nationwide priority is the struggle to eliminate the consequences of the Genocide tragedy in the fate of Armenia and the Armenian people”, namely, moral and psychological, material and political consequences.
The CC RAO recalls that the State Duma of the Russian Federation in 1995 sharply condemned and recognized the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1923 in Turkey. Every year on April 24, Russian Armenians, as well as the civilized community of the whole world, remember the memorable day of Armenian Genocide. We are committed to peace, to the fight against the crimes of genocide and to the triumph of justice.
The CC RAO hopes that now, after the United States of America has once again recognized the Armenian Genocide, along with more than three dozen countries that have recognized the Genocide, a new stage in eliminating the consequences of this crime will be followed, which will receive consistent practical implementation. And this will force Turkey to admit its guilt for the atrocious crimes committed by it against humanity over a hundred years ago, to repent before the Armenians, atone for their guilt and compensate for the damage.
The CC RAO once again thanks the US Senate for such a bold and decisive step. We urge the United States, together with Russia and other leading countries of the world, to take steps to jointly counteract all attempts at violence on our planet.
